Looks like a substantial number of the USB modems are exactly that. I
even found a customer comment on an online shop that the current USR
one is a Winmodem. Argh! I had always had them down as a worthwhile
company.

I haven't found ANY recent comment anywhere on the Web or Usenet from
someone who is sucessfully using a USB modem which I can find for sale
with BSD or Linux.

There is a Zoom one which is advertised as being Mac compatable. I
wonder if that means it's real or they just have Mac software to drive
a pretended one.
