Why is MySQL nearly twice as fast on Linux?

But I don't see how using network connections vs
domain socket (is that what local uses?) affects
a threading library.  And if you compare FreeBSD
linuxthreads to native linuxthreads, it still
isn't close which still shows to me that it is
the kernel.
