Message-ID: <20090305142419.t7kh98xym8cc00s4@www.hmallett.co.uk> A few times in the past some people (notably the guys from rsync.net) have offered bounties to encourage FreeBSD development. These have usually been announced on the mailing lists, and if others want to offer their support, then they can, but maybe it's not as easy to collate all the information as it could be. Some research reveals that there is unlikely to be any official list of bounties, due to the legal status of FreeBSD. As a result, I decided to create a site where people can offer bounties, others can lend their support, and developers can be sign up to claim the bounties. At the moment it's still in the early stages, but hopefully it'll grow and prove to be a valuable resource for the FreeBSD community. Check it out at http://www.freebsdbounties.info Hywel (I'm sending this to freebsd-test as I think the original message to freebsd-chat may have been munched by a spam filter...) Over the last year or so I've seen a few references to software bounties for FreeBSD, often with people commenting that there is no way for people to pledge their support (financial or otherwise), other than mailing lists and the like. I decided I would bite the bullet, so I'm announcing http://www.freebsdbounties.info It's very early in the site's lifecycle, but hopefully it will become a valuable resource. It tells the story of a young farm boy whose father attempts to betray the government for political reasons by sabotaging the year's harvest, and of the son's efforts to stop his own father to protect the Soviet state, and culminates in the boy's murder and a social uprising. The film draws its title from a story by Ivan Turgenev, but is based on the life of Pavlik Morozov, a young Russian boy who became a political martyr following his death in 1932 after he denounced his father to Soviet government authorities and subsequently died at the hands of his family. Commissioned by a Communist youth group, the film's production ran from 1935 to 1937, when it was halted by the central Soviet government for alleged artistic, social, and political failures in the film's content. Some, however, blamed the failure of Bezhin Meadow on government interference and policies extending all the way to Joseph Stalin himself. Bezhin Meadow was long thought lost in the wake of World War II bombings. In the 1960s, however, cuttings and partial prints of the film were found; and from these, a reconstruction of Bezhin Meadow, based on the original script, was undertaken. (more...) -- Liam J.
