slow ZFS on FreeBSD 8.1

The reason I've not installed ZFS on root is because of the added 
complications.  I run the OS on ufs (with gmirror) and my data is on 
ZFS.   We must be hanging out with different groups.  Most of the people 
I know don't have ZFS on root.
