As per my other mail, they wouldn't get deallocated at all. They
still show up in /dev/pts/ even after closing, and the next integer
index is picked up upon the next terminal creation.

If it's there, and you can see it, it's real.
If it's not there, and you can see it, it's virtual.
If it's there, and you can't see it, it's transparent.
If it's not there, and you can't see it, you erased it.
