Default route (IPv4) demolished by destroying clone (gif/gre) interface

Why is it doing that, then? From the commit message for 1.23 for src/ 
etc/pccard_ether, which introduced removable_route_flush, it is not  
clear to me under which circumstances this is necessary.  Why would I  
want to flush all my routes because an interface disappears?  And  
would I want that to happen by default?
