FreeBSD 5.4: Is it generally unstable?

I don't think it has to do with amd64.  rdist6 just plain refuses to  
use ssh when running as root, making it mostly useless for updating  
system files.  it works just fine (amd64 and i386) on 5.4 as a  
regular user.
