5.3-RELEASE/amd64 kernel panic with GENERIC

    For the archives: this turned out to be flaky hardware, the machine
    works with only two (of three total) memory banks used. It's not
    clear yet if it's the memory or the motherboard that's causing the
    problem. FWIW, the RAM is 3x Corsair 512 MB 400 MHz XMS CL2.
