Okay, this one's for the archive, in case anyone else runs into this 
same problem:

As Danny said, the problem has been fixed (at least I don't get the 
error message any longer). By upgrading to 5.4-STABLE I've managed to 
get the full PXE boot setup to work now.

Thanks to whoever fixed that bug :)
