An Operton based system should be the same price or less than a Xeon.
Plus, if you just need large amounts of RAM, but a single processor will
do, you can also get single processor Operton boards. See the new NForce3
based motherboard from ASUS. It is designed as a workstation board. I
think the board can socket 6GB? Some of the dual Operton boards can
socket way more.
