IDE ATA ATAPI tape drive (AST0) causes system to stop
responding.

Errata to my previous message: I should have said try putting these
lines into your /boot/loader.conf.local:
hw.ata.ata_dma=0
hw.ata.atapi_dma=0
Reboot and see if it helps.
