New installation of 4.8-RELEASE on a new system.

Installed XFree86 from packages:
     XFree86-4.3.0,1 X11/XFree86 core distribution (complete, using
mini/m eta-po

Running "XFree86 -configure" fails, locking the keyboard (but not the
system) and making the system squeal like a pig.

The last few lines of the XFree86.0.log
    (II) Module int10: vendor="The XFree86 Project"
            compiled for 4.3.0, module version = 1.0.0

pciconf reports the following:

        device   = 'GeForce4 MX 440SE with AGP 8X [NV18]'
        class    = display
        subclass = VGA

No XFree86Config.new is written out.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
