I had similar problems with Supermicro X6DHR-8G2 and FreeBSD 5.4 (ia32).
The system was started, if I used "safe mode" or "hint.apic.0.disabled=1" in 
loder.conf.

But the correct decision of a problem in my case was updating BIOS of a MB.
