Why does FreeBSD insist on https?

As always when making sweeping complaints like this, a specific example 
or two of URLs that you find troubling and, just maybe, if you're 
feeling ambitious, some details showing that you've checked that the web 
server is indeed issuing redirects rather than it being one of the 
client-side features pointed out already by jd1008, would make 
informative responses much more feasible.
