Because /usr/X11R6 has been obsoleted, and all the programs
you have installed on your recent system seem to be aware
of it. The X11R6 symlink will only be relevant to programs
(or port install "recipes") that haven't made the transition
yet. On my system (very old) this symlink is still present
because the installation is full of old software. :-)
