If you run out of swap because demand for memory is too great then it's
fairly common that you run out of reallocatable pages immediately after
and processes are killed. Running out of swap doesn't itself cause
processes to die, and it's not inevitable that it leads to a critical
shortage of pages - it depends on the circumstances in which the swap
filled-up.
