Then maybe the missing piece here (for 9.3-STABLE) is to include the
KMS feature (if that is part of 9.3-STABLE)? I think I had stated
earlier (much earlier) in this thread that I have a Radeon video card.

My desired sequence:

  1) log into FreeBSD 9.3-STABLE at the console (vty?) level

  2) begin my Xorg session (% /usr/local/bin/xinit -- /usr/local/bin/Xorg)

  3) perform whatever I need to do with xterms, browsers, editors, etc.

  4) exit my Xorg session (thereby returning to the console (vty?) level)

  5) log off FreeBSD 9.3-STABLE leaving my monitor at the ;login: prompt

My problem (after upgrading to 9.3-STABLE and WITH_NEW_XORG=TRUE) is
with step #4 above. Things appear to hang and I'm forced to reboot
or to cycle power (which is a bummer due to fsck(8) taking so long)
since I'm unable to log off cleanly. I still don't know what to do... :-(

Regards,

web...
