OT: odd gmail behavior

I don't use gmail often, and I use its 'helpful features' even less; but
can't you just click on the 'important' symbol next to the star to turn
it not-yellow? The tooltip for the symbol suggests that this is the
case, but I have no clue whether or not it actually works.
