Did you try googling for 'X mail client FreeBSD'?   A mere 14+ million hits.
add 'maildir' to the search, and you get over 1.6 million .  Eliminate
referenes to Apple, and there are still over 1.2 million hits.

*LOTS* of options for you to investigate.
