Q: recommendation for external USB disk

I have been tarring, gzipping and untarring files on the usb disk and
don't run into any trouble.
I also used dump to backup /usr to this disk without any problems
But this is on FreeBSD 7.2-RELEASE-p6

Are there any messages in /var/log/messages?
