freebsd-update doesn't seem to update to Latest

Reading the handbook and several pages on the web, i got the impression that ports are always compiled from source.
I should have read the handbook more thorougly, sorry. It mentions portupgrade -P.

freebsd-update only updates the base system. It doesn't touch ports.
