This is a useless response. Why do you feel the need to question his
intentions?

Maybe he wants faster throughput. Maybe he'd like to utilize GigE
speeds on a switch he bought. Maybe he wants to learn more about
gigabit networking.

At any rate, "why" really doesn't matter.
