Update:
Changing the URI of the printer in printers.conf from
usb:/dev/unlpt0 to file:/dev/unlpt0
did not help. The effect is, that cups does not start anymore and i get
Unable to open output file "file:/dev/unlpt0" - Device busy.
in /var/log/cups/error_log
I'm at a loss :(
