Yes, because escputil belongs to the 'usb' group. It should belong to the
same group as /dev/ulpt0, which should be 'cups'.
A 'chown :cups escputil' should fix that.

I think you need to drop the -r option, (and -u as well). Cups is
probably already using the device.
