Problems compiling new kernel

You don't need to use ext2fs to run Linux binaries.  Even if you do
need ext2fs, do you really care about the license?

I am wondering whether you upgraded your system correctly - in
particular make might give this error if you were still running an old
5.x make.  How did you do the upgrade?
