OT: Does a low-cost, reliable switch exist?

indeed...but, again, i remember an instance when we had some pretty wild power
issues and, even though we had some of these netgear dumb switches behind a
beefy ups, they went nuts.... i thought at the time something may have come up
the cat5 from the workstations (which werent ups or surge protected )... I
never followed up to find out if it's even possible for that to happen because
of this 'real work' thing happening.... just pulled the switch out and pushed
another one in.
