Yes! Thank you all!
The problem was permissions on /

it was:
ls -la /
total 79
drwxr-x---  23 root    wheel    1024 Aug 30 09:07 .

and changing it to:
# chmod o=rx /

solved the problem.

But how comes it was changed? have to check better..
