Unable to install PEAR

That's an interesting error... memory problems or a programming  
error, perhaps?

 From signals(7):

SIGSEGV	    11	     Core    Invalid memory reference

I'd test your memory and CPU, and maybe consider contacting the  
maintainer about this if they both appear to be fine..
