finding out what devices got an ip from the dhcp ?

Install a port-scanner like nmap, and scan the DHCP-managed subnet.   
I suppose you could use plain old ping, too, but nmap will identify  
the OS and hardware manufacturer of the NIC (although I'm not sure it  
knows how to recognize the MACs of wireless cards)...
