When using the mouse daemon I believe you should connect to 
/dev/sysmouse not /dev/psm0.  My xorg.conf looks like:

     Identifier  "Mouse1"
     Driver      "mouse"
     Option "Protocol"    "Auto"
     Option "Device"      "/dev/sysmouse"
     Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
