WARNING /usr was not properly dismounted ...

When I restarted by machine, I get the warning messages:

WARNING /usr was not properly dismounted
WARNING /tmp was not properly dismounted
...

and for a number of other mount points.

Are there any special precautions I need to take, some disk check utility or
whatever?
