Yes, login as a normal user and su to root ('su -'). The normal user  
has to be in the wheel group ('pw usermod [name|uid] -G wheel'). You  
may also set "PermitRootLogin yes" in /etc/ssh/sshd_config. You might  
also want to read the sshd_config manpage.
