KDE Difficulties

Here's what I use:

In my /etc/ttys file, the line for ttyv8:

ttyv8   "/usr/local/bin/kdm -nodaemon"  xterm   on  secure

This starts kdm (the KDE login manager) at boot. Then I am able to go into KDE 
without any scripts or 'startkde' or anything.
