USB not working ona Toshiba laptop

I recently bought a Toshiba Laptop (A65-1662) and installed FreeBSD 5.x
(current 5.3+).

I am having trouble with the USB. It is recognized at bootup. If I
have a usb device plugged in during bootup, the device is recognized,
but, by the time the boot is finished, the usb port becomes disabled.

If I plug devices in after bootup, they are not recognized. I have
started usbd in debugging mode, and no events are ever registered, so
no devices ever get attached.

I have checked the original system summary from Windows, and I noticed
that the irq assigned under Windows to the usb ports is 19 (?), but
FreeBSD is assigning them to 5. IRQ 5 just happens to be the irq for
the software winmodem, which does not get recognized by FreeBSD, even
with the ltmdm port.

So, I am thinking that the winmodem is somehow attaching to irq5 even
though it is not really a valid device. I have tried to get the usb
devices to load at a different interrupt, but they are pci devices and
don't appear to follow any loader hints.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone can help. It would be really nice
to use my usb ports.

Here is my dmesg output
