Trouble with X

What exact steps did you go through. I doubt what ever you did would
result in the need for a reinstall.

Ehh, frame buffers are over rated...

any ways, do this as root...

X -configure
cp ~/<what ever the new file is> /etc/X11/XF86Config
xf86cfg -textmode
<tweak the settings and ect>
startx or xdm or whatever...
