permissions

Hi,

I'm trying to clean things up after a 'build world'. mergemaster created a 
directory named "empty", with permissions:
 dr-xr-xr-x  2 root  wheel  512 Feb 22 01:07 empty/

- what's this directory for? It also appears in /var.
- How to delete the directory? Not even root can change those permissions, nor
  delete the directory with these permissions.
