AFAIK, FreeBSD 4.9 only supports USB 1.0. Depending on what you want to
do, there are two options:
- upgrade to 5.x, which supports USB 2.0 (but is possibly a bit too
"cutting edge")
- use FireWire devices instead of USB 2.0. FireWire is supported in
FreeBSD 4.9
