thinkpad T40 5.2 kernel panic

Hi all.

I can't boot into the GENERIC kernel on a IBM Thinkpad T40.


cd /usr/src/kern/i386/conf/
config GENERIC
cd ../comple/GENERIC
make depend
make
make install


When I boot I get this:

ata1-slave: FAILURE - ATAPI_IDENTIFY no interrupt
ata1-slave: FAILURE - ATAPI_IDENTIFY no interrupt

...


Anybody know how to resolve this?
