Freebsd Not Making Friendly With CD-ROM

ad0 is your hard drive, not your cd rom drive. The cd drive would show
up as something like ...

acd0: CD-RW <LITE-ON LTR-52246S> at ata1-master PIO4

Some possibilities are ...

The ribbon cable is not plugged in right
the power connection is not plugged in
the drive is broken
the drive is not compatible (that would be quite unusual)
