mozilla with flash and java plugin

I can't help you with the java, but I had the exact same problem with the 
flash plugin (I'm using FreeBSD 5.0 as well). I just followed the 
instructions here:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/desktop-browsers.html
and flash worked just fine.
