Startup stalls

I have a question...I have a Dell Inspiron 3000 laptop.  I just installed
FreeBSD v4.8.  Sometimes when I bootup as the bootup messages scroll by my
system hangs at this point (message).. "ppi0: <Parallel I/O> on ppbus0>".  I
disabled the Parallel port in my BIOS but it still does it.  I have to
reboot my machine several times before it'll finally load FreeBSD.  Any
ideas as to what may be causing this???
