This is the error I get when trying to install FBSD using kern.flp and mfsroot.flp for 5.1-RELEASE.

Copied images to HD from ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/5.1-RELEASE/floppies/ 

Made floppy disks using fdimage, (c:\downloads>fdimage kern.flp a:)(c:\downloads>fdimage mfsroot.flp a:)

Google and FreeBSD archives were no help.

Not sure what info will be helpful. Ask and I will answer.
