Gateway hardware

For my FreeBSD gateway i can use only a machine (486) without monitor, mouse and keyboard !? i configure the gateway (PF, NAT, etc) with monitor and keyboard, and after that i put the gateway only connected by 2 NICS, one connected to the cable modem and other connected to the switch , can be ? and when i want to apply a patch or something in that gateway i can access it by other machine in the network and change what i want ?
