CMI8738 modem functionality

I received a computer with a CMI8728 sound/modem on the motherboard. I
was pleasantly surprised to find that FreeBSD supported the sound
portion of it.

Does FreeBSD support the modem portion of the CMI8738?

Is there an explanation available of how to write a module and driver
for FreeBSD on the net? I have Linux source code for a driver, maybe I
can translate it into BSD.
