Of Git and M$

what forces you or anyone to use github.
Git doesn't need it. works locally.
remote repository could be over nfs, ssh, ftp or whatever you like.

this is a problem only for people so lazy that are unable to setup remote 
repository. or because "project manager" decided to use github

of course microsoft bought it to steal software more efficiently.
