synth: Error opening terminal: xterm

It turned out ncurses was the problem.
Switching ncurses off via "synth configure"
solved this problem.

I also tried one of my other boxes, and there
I don't get this problem. So it seems something
is indeed broken on this box, something to do
with ncurses...
