Perl port to select in make.conf

Dear colleagues,

which variable should be defined in make.conf to switch from current 5.14 to, 
say, 5.16 (for poudriere package building)? 

Naive 

PERL_VER=5.16

does not seem to work, and I want to not chase minor version changes.
