Is there a HDD connected to port 0? I get something similar if I check on a
port w/o any disk attached to:

# smartctl -d3ware,7 /dev/twa0
smartctl version 5.38 [i386-portbld-freebsd7.0] Copyright (C) 2002-8 Bruce
Allen
Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/

Command failed, ata.status=(0x03), ata.command=(0xec), ata.flags=(0x01)
WARNING - NO DEVICE FOUND ON 3WARE CONTROLLER (disk 7)
Smartctl: Device Read Identity Failed (not an ATA/ATAPI device)

A mandatory SMART command failed: exiting. To continue, add one or more '-T
permissive' options.
#

Btw, I run version 5.38.
Cheers,
ch
