Alas, it doesn't seem to have an effect...

Apart from seeing this upon trial,

  grep ACLOCAL_FLAGS `pkg_info -L /var/db/pkg/gnu-automake-1.9.6/`

doesn't give any hits...

What does exist is ACLOCAL_AMFLAGS, but that's a directive to used
within Makefile.am, and not from outside...
