Dealing with downgraded ports

I downgraded portupgrade and everything works again.

However portupgrade complains that it wants to upgrade itself (with -na) and there is a build
error. There was some flag or so I could set that stopped it from doing this, but I can't
find the docs or the mail where I saw it mentioned (only last week).

Where should I be looking?
